Wim Delvoye exhibition

Client: Heydar Aliyev Center
Location: Baku / Azerbaijan
Year: 2015

In April 2015, a solo exhibition of Wim Delvoye, a well-known Belgian artist and a recognised figure in neo-conceptual art, was launched at the Heydar Aliyev Center.

Blurring the boundary between medieval Gothic art and the digital realm of current contemporary art, the Belgian-born Delvoye makes aerodynamic, mathematically perfect, intricate sculptures that take both art and architecture to new levels of invention. One of the key elements of this diverse body of work is his life-size construction machinery, originally carved from wood but more recently recreating Gothic styles in laser-cut steel.

Over the past few years, Delvoye has developed a series of works that reinterpret iconic sculptures from the illustrious period of neoclassicism and romanticism. Toying with both homage and irreverence, the artist appropriates, mirrors and deforms the classic works that most inspire him.
