The exhibition of Bernard Buffet was on view at the Heydar Aliyev Center from September 2014 until January 2015. It was the artist’s first display in Azerbaijan and featured 43 works.

Bernard Buffet (10 July 1928 – 4 October 1999) was a French painter of Expressionism and a member of the anti-abstract art group “L‘homme Témoin“ (the Witness-Man). For his admirers, Bernard Buffet is a “pure genius“. He was admitted to “L´Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts“ at the age of 15, then introduced to collectors through the painter “Aujame“ and rewarded “Prix de la critique“ (Critics Award) at the young age of 20.

Bernard Buffet is recognised as a master in his art, and his paintings are on display in the world´s most renowned museums. The Surugadaira Museum, (Japan), is especially dedicated to Buffet´s works and has around 1,000 pieces of his works on display.
